ESFI Celebrates National Electrical Safety Month

ESFI Celebrates National Electrical Safety Month

Arlington, VA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 01, 2011

May is National Electrical Safety Month and the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is preparing for the launch of its annual campaign to increase public awareness of electrical hazards and the importance of electrical safety.

“Modern homes run on electricity, but if you don’t properly maintain your electrical products, they can create hazards,” warned ESFI president Brett Brenner. “The good news is that eliminating electrical hazards from your home doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive.”

In the U.S., home electrical problems annually cause more than 51,000 fires, resulting in more than 490 deaths, 1,400 injuries, and $ 1.3 billion in property damage, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Statistics from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission show that nearly 400 people are electrocuted in the United States each year.

The Electrical Safety Foundation International sponsors National Electrical Safety Month (NESM) each May to increase public awareness of the electrical hazards around us at home, work, school, and play. This year’s campaign challenges people across the country to evaluate the electrical safety of their homes, learning more about their electrical systems and devices in the process.

This year, ESFI is focusing on the electrical safety of a different area of the home each week during May:

Cooking Up Safety in the Kitchen (May 2–6): The kitchen is where families gather to cook favorite recipes, share warm meals, and reconnect with each other, but it’s also the location where two-thirds of all home fires start. Identify and eliminate potential hazards in your kitchen before someone gets hurt.

Plug into Safety in the Family Room (May 9–13): The family room is an area of the home where many people go to unwind, but there are often many electrical appliances and devices in use in this area. Learn to recognize electrical hazards that can exist in common areas of your home.

Wake Up to Safety in the Bedroom (May 16–20): The average adult sleeps almost 8 hours per night, spending at least one-third of every day in their bedroom. Take steps to make sure your bedroom is safe—you’ll sleep better!

Build a Foundation of Safety in the Basement (May 23–27): Heating equipment and electrical distribution systems are two of the leading causes of home fires. Help keep your home safe by learning the basics of how these systems work and making sure they are properly maintained.

New resources featured in ESFI’s 2011 National Electrical Safety Month Toolkit, such as the Home Electrical Safety Challenge, have been designed to teach people of all ages to identify and correct potential electrical hazards before a more serious situation can result. This complimentary 2011 NESM Toolkit can be downloaded on the Foundation’s website at http://www.electrical-safety.org.

To coincide with National Electrical Safety Month this May, ESFI has completed renovations on its Virtual Home online tool. This dynamic, interactive resource guides users as they navigate a virtual home room by room, building understanding about potential home electrical dangers and electrical safety.

“A healthy respect for electricity and a basic knowledge of electrical safety practices can help keep your family and home safe from electrical hazards all year long,” noted Brenner.

Visit ESFI’s Virtual Home at http://virtualhome.esfi.org/ to learn more.

The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety. ESFI proudly sponsors National Electrical Safety Month each May, and engages in public education campaigns throughout the year to prevent electrical fires, injuries, and fatalities. Repair4MobilePhone Celebrates Its One-Year Anniversary

Repair4MobilePhone Celebrates Its One-Year Anniversary

Berlin, Germany (PRWEB) May 11, 2006

As Repair4MobilePhone (http://repair4mobilephone.org) celebrates its first anniversary, it also commemorates its dedication to rescuing 850 million cell phone users worldwide. The Web site today announced that it has collected more than 300 links to freely accessible cell phone repair instructions.

Werner Heuser, founder of Repair4MobilePhone, developed the Web site as a resource for cell phone users to easily make repairs and replacements without the help of a professional.

“Sometimes your cell phone will break when you’re nowhere near a repair center or when you just haven’t the time to wait for someone else to fix it — that’s where we come in,” Heuser said. “I created Repair4MobilePhone as a loose network of information from tech geeks all around the world. While commercial repair guides are generally expensive, this form of ‘shared knowledge’ allows us to provide the same information for free.”

Repair4MobilePhone has repair guides for more than 50 popular cell phone models. The site even details the process of building a phone from scratch.

In addition to repairing cell phones, Repair4MobilePhone offers information for a variety of other features users may question, such as how to replace batteries and accessories, inquiries about Bluetooths and cables, and the schematics of JTAG. The site’s modding section links to guides that help people learn easy tricks for personalizing their phones with faceplate paint, background lighting and other creative gadgets.

The tech savvy can also use the Web site to broadcast their cell-phone repair knowledge. All visitors have the opportunity to submit their own reports directly from the home page.

About Repair4MobilePhone

Since May 2005, Repair4MobilePhone has provided cell phone users with a collection of links to take apart instructions, disassembly pictures, upgrade and repair manuals, as well as do-it-yourself (DIY) tips and tricks for cell phones. The site shows that fix-it-yourself repair projects are often easy, cool and fun, while also saving time and money. For more information, please visit http://repair4mobilephone.org.

National Kids to Kids Day Celebrates a New Generation of Global Leaders and Citizens

National Kids to Kids Day Celebrates a New Generation of Global Leaders and Citizens

National Kids to Kids Day is April 30th!

Waltham, MA (Vocus) April 26, 2010

World Connect, formerly Infante Sano, a non-profit that empowers local leaders in underserved communities to solve local problems, today announced plans for the celebration of the first-ever National Kids to Kids Day on April 30. This coordinated event will raise awareness and funds for the Kids to Kids program to bring about positive change in the lives of kids everywhere.

“National Kids to Kids Day is a celebration of the many kids in the US who are committed to getting involved and changing the lives of their peers around the world,” said Sarah Henry, executive director of World Connect. “The day is also a celebration of the thousands of kids in our partner countries who are taking part in the projects Kids to Kids funds. However, in many ways, this day is most about kids everywhere recognizing they are citizens of a global community and that they can have an active role in shaping their collective future.”

For Kids to Kids Day, students are holding local events that spotlight the gap in basic opportunities for youth in education, recreation and cultural programs in countries around the world. The goal is to encourage more students to get involved with Kids to Kids by becoming Kids to Kids Members, helping to raise money and awareness and joining in the online voting that determines which overseas projects are funded. (Read more about the recent round of grants funded by Kids to Kids in “World Connect Funds 51 New Projects through Kids to Kids Program.”

Some of the events our members have planned include:

Groton School, MA: Kids to Kids members are hosting an environment themed day with a cookout, t-shirt sale and student dance
Wayland High School, MA: Kids to Kids members are hosting a movie night fundraiser
Bayview High School, RI: Kids to Kids members are holding a candygram fundraiser at school

For others looking to plan an event for Kids to Kids Day, World Connect offers a toolkit on the Kids to Kids Website.

National Kids to Kids Day comes at an exciting time as the Kids to Kids program is growing on multiple fronts. Kids from 15 states have taken the membership pledge and are helping to build the program in their schools and communities. Kids to Kids is now working to fund projects in 10 countries and, with a total of 230 projects, has affected the lives of more than 12,000 kids abroad.

About Kids to Kids

World Connect’s youth-led Kids to Kids Program empowers local leaders in underserved communities to solve local problems affecting kids. Founded by four middle school girls in Massachusetts, Kids to Kids encourages grassroots fundraising by kids in the US for youth arts, sports, education and environmental projects. Ellie Lund Celebrates 25 Years at Rouse Chamberlin Homes

Ellie Lund Celebrates 25 Years at Rouse Chamberlin Homes

Ellie Lund celebrates 25 years at Rouse Chamberlin Homes

Exton,PA (Vocus/PRWEB) March 03, 2011

Ellie Lund, Purchasing Department Coordinator for Rouse Chamberlin Homes, celebrates her 25th year with the company. She is currently responsible for sending out the start and purchase orders which manages the building process and keeps the entire production schedule on time and on-budget.

“Ellie is one of the reasons that Rouse Chamberlin Homes has its longstanding reputation for quality construction,” observed Rouse Chamberlin President Dave England. “From her first position here as a construction coordinator for our Clover Lea community, her work has kept buyers and our company on track and on budget.”

Ellie’s introduction to the home construction industry came early. Her father, University of Connecticut Professor Frank McCamey, built his own home from scratch. “He wanted to provide a home for our family and, given that money was tight, he did it quite literally. I remember being fourteen years old and straightening bent nails with a hammer, so you can say that it was really a family build.”

Ellie began her career in the home construction industry just months after buying her own Chester County home in 1968, with the custom builder who built that home. After 15 years there, she moved to Century Kitchens for two years before moving to Rouse Chamberlin Homes.

“A lot has changed in the construction industry over the last 25 years,” noted Ellie. “Back then, selections were done on blueprints with red pens. Multiple duplicate paper copies of everything were essential; the volume of paper needed was enormous. Computers and remote access to files have dramatically cut down the amount of physical paper needed to build a home. They have also added incredible efficiencies and reduced our operating costs, as well. We’ve been able to pass those savings on to the buyers.”

“But there is one thing that hasn’t changed in the last 25 years. Construction quality still begins in the planning and inner construction of the home. No matter how pretty the home looks on the outside, it is the inner structure that tells the quality story. The materials used, the care in design and the workmanship throughout – they continue to be the true measure of quality that results in homes which require less maintenance and offer happier ownership over the long-term.”

Ellie has been a Chester County resident since 1966.

Since 1978, Rouse Chamberlin Homes has been building homes and thriving neighborhoods focused on the home buyers’ needs. The result has included exceptional customer satisfaction results and industry recognition including “National Builder of the Year” and “America’s Best Builder” awards. For more information, visit http://www.RouseChamberlinHomes.com.

Pet Sitters International Celebrates Professionalism in the Industry

Pet Sitters International Celebrates Professionalism in the Industry

King, NC (Vocus) February 24, 2009

Pet Sitters International, the world’s largest association for professional pet sitters, asks communities and pet owners to help recognize professional pet sitters and the value of in-home pet care during Professional Pet Sitters Week, March 1-7.

Introduced by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in 1995, the Professional Pet Sitters Week campaign seeks to educate pet owners about the advantages of in-home pet care, and encourages the public to explore professional pet sitting as a viable and rewarding career opportunity.

“Professional pet sitting has become a significant part of the pet care service industry in the past 15 years,” said Patti Moran, PSI’s president. “Many professional pet sitters put in long hours, seven days a week, 365 days a year, so they can provide personal in-home care for pets of all kinds.”

“These small business owners and their staffs truly deserve recognition for their tireless efforts and the optimal care they provide to pets,” Moran said.

According to PSI’s 2008 State of the Industry Survey, 98% of pet-sitting businesses are independently owned

The majority of PSI members service both dogs and cats (97%) while two-thirds also service fish, birds and caged pets. The top five services offered by members are basic pet care, dog walking, care of special needs pets, pet transportation and overnight pet care.

In the last decade, pet sitting has become a unique and preferred alternative to boarding facilities or having to rely on family and neighbors to check in on their pets. With 63% of U.S. households owning a pet, more households are turning to professional pet sitters for pet care they can trust when working or traveling.

“Peace of mind” is an added benefit that pet owners receive when using a professional pet-sitting service. With 97% of PSI members carrying pet-sitter liability insurance and 84% carrying both insurance and bonding, pet owners’ pets and their homes are secure when they must be away.

Further setting professional pet sitting services apart from hobbyists or fly-by-night pet-care businesses is a commitment to continuing education. PSI members take advantage of a diverse offering of educational resources, including PSI’s member magazine, The Pet Sitters’ WORLD, and an increasing number are taking advantage of the association’s rigorous accreditation program.

To locate a PSI member pet sitter in your area or for more information about pet sitting as a profession, visit PSI’s Web site at http://www.petsit.com or call (336) 983-9222, ext. 1.

About Pet Sitters International

Established in 1994, Pet Sitters International (PSI) is the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters, representing more than 8,000 independent professional pet-sitting businesses in the United States, Canada and abroad. PSI provides members with access to affordable bonding and liability insurance and educational resources such as PSI’s Accreditation Program, The Pet Sitter’s WORLD magazine and PSI’s annual Quest convention.
